Sony FE 90mm F2.8 G OSS Macro

Sony's new FE 90mm 2.8 G OSS Macro has been added to the list of newer G lenses from sony in the past year, as with all G lenses image quality is second to none and this 90mm macro does not disappoint. With true 1:1 subject / sensor ratio unlike many claiming to be macro lenses, the FE 90mm delivers what it has promised, a true macro lens with excellent image quality. If you're still using an older Sony FE system like myself without In camera image stabilization then the Optical steady shot that comes with native sony FE lenses is an extremely handy tool especially with low light / stopped down aperture requiring a slower shutter speed as many photographers will attest not all images can be taken from the comfort of a tripod.

Focus hold was new for me with the range of G lenses and it has been a welcome inclusion to my daily use of the gear. facial recognition for focusing is useful but holding focus after finding what you want to focus on, to further frame the image how you want it to look is one of my most used attributes when using Auto focus.

The Sony 90mm is setup with 3 Modes

Full - For a standard 90mm 2.8 focusing distance (Can be used for portraits)

Infinity - 0.5m for subjects closer to the lens

0.5m - 0.28m a full 1:1 Macro representation

The sony FE 90mm Macro can typically be used for more then a stand alone macro lens, a 90mm focal length is nice for portraits as close images can typically be taken a further distance from your subject while giving the audience the impression of touching noses with the subject. The lens will need to be set to Full focal range for this.
